Recognizing the Importance of Fathers – TPPRC’s “Brothers in Arms" Fatherhood Program

Children brought up in fatherless homes are at a big disadvantage, compared to their peers from two-parent households. The Turning Point Pregnancy Resource Center’s new program, Brothers in Arms, aims to empower young men with practical skills, men-to-men mentorship and a host of resources to help reverse the plight of fatherless homes.

Our fatherhood program is a great resource for any man who needs help with relationships, raising children and finding the right help at the right time. Our fatherhood program is available to anyone in San Diego County, and the mission is simple: to equip fathers with practical skills through consistent and respectful instruction and engagement.

Fatherhood Statistics – Proof of a Father’s Importance in the Home

  • - Nearly 9 of every 10 children with behavior disorders come from fatherless homes – 20 times the average. (Center for Disease Control)
  • - More than 7 of every 10 high school dropouts come from fatherless homes. (National Principals Association Report)
  • - Children with fathers in the household exhibit stronger academic performance, greater extracurricular involvement and other positive school statistical indicators.
  • - 43% of US children live without their father. (US Department of Census)
  • - 90% of homeless and runaway children are from fatherless homes. (US D.H.H.S., Bureau of the Census)
  • - Pregnant teenagers are more likely to come from fatherless homes.

These fatherhood statistics illustrate how the impact of a father in the home cannot be overstated. What if there weren’t so many fatherless children in San Diego County, California and the United States as a whole? Brothers in Arms helps men at the local level become accountable, responsible parents. And those life lessons can be spread to other men in similar circumstances. Our San Diego fatherhood program’s goal is to make sure fathers and fathers-to-be in our local area have the necessary knowledge, confidence and accountability to raise children in a loving environment.

Turning Point’s fatherhood program strives to make a difference in the lives of men in our community and to help reverse the negative aspects of “the fatherless generation."
